Artist Summons Rainbows At Will
By Dorothy Tan, 29 Oct 2012
Nebraska-based visual artist Michael Jones McKean’s delightful project—‘The Rainbow: Certain Principles of Light and Shapes Between Forms’—involves the “production” of rainbows at scheduled times.
A natural phenomenon that occurs serendipitously, a key part of the rainbow’s appeal is its elusiveness—which McKean has eradicated with his manmade rainbows.
However, these manmade wonders—conjured up with just water and sunlight—are no less beautiful than their naturally-occurring counterparts.
According to the artist, these colorful displays of his are meant to provide the viewer with “an egalitarian visual experience” and the rainbow—manmade or natural—continues to connect and uplift spirits.
