‘Smart’ Cash Registers Can Identify Pastries
A bakery in Tokyo has started using cash registers that scan and ring up pastries without barcodes.
Employees need only to place the pastry on the checkout counter—where the register will scan and identify each item by their shape and color.
When unsure of an item, the register will provide the employee with a drop-down menu of options to choose from.
With use, the software is trained to become more accurate and efficient at keeping down lines.
