Historic Black & White Portraits Of Famous Men, Now In Color
By Dorothy Tan, 20 Dec 2012
Talented 18-year-old artist Mads Madsen is highly skilled in colorizing old black and white photographs, bringing a new dimension of realism to historic images.
According to Twisted Sifter, the artist says that it takes him about 20-30 minutes to complete a portrait, but outdoor shots and images with multiple subjects would take him longer to colorize.
In addition to countless American civil war pictures, he has also worked on several portraits of famous men—including Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin and Abraham Lincoln—, rendering these subjects much more expressive than in the original photographs.
Watch him at work in this video.
