Design Studio Turns A Shipping Container Into A Sauna
Canadian design studio Castor Canadensis has transformed a shipping container into a portable sauna.
Called the ‘sauna box’, the traditional wood-burning steam bath has many features: it is water-tight and portable; it requires little site preparation; it has a wooden fire stove; and can also be powered by solar panels.
Each unit is custom built with an outer layer fabricated from corten steel—a material known to be saltwater-resistant.
The interior is furnished with hand-made objects like carved stone stools, a stone sink, as well as other wood and metal elements.
The sauna box is priced at US$41,000 and also comes equipped with an iPod stereo, electric guitar hook-up, castor-designed stool, magnetic truck light and bronze antlers.
