Photographer Captures Surreal Self-Portraits To Help Cope With Depression
By John Yong, 16 Apr 2013
Art is often an emotional outlet for people—the same can be said for 20-year-old photographer Christian Hopkins, who has been battling depression for four years.
Using photography as a coping mechanism, Hopkins has captured a series of surreal self-portraits that reflects the anguish that goes through his mind.
Hopkins originally planned to delete the pictures, but his friend, Redditor Musketman, decided to share them online.
Hopkins acknowledged that he’s fine with his works existing and hopes that they might help others going through similar struggles.
“If anything, I hope I helped someone with my photography. They’re me. Perhaps they are you as well. Maybe they’re neither. Maybe they’re we.”
