Intricately Carved Eggshells

Chinese artist Pu Derong has a pair of extremely steady hands. Using just a blade and his skill, Pu manages to carve amazingly detailed and intricate masterpieces on eggshells that are only 0.3 mm thick.

What is even more astounding is that unlike other eggshell art, Pu does not completely pierce the fragile shells.

Instead, he uses his steady hands to painstakingly shave away a thin layer off of the 0.3 mm thick eggshells. This delicate and fragile work requires absolute concentration, so Pu does not pause once he has started a piece.

Although occasionally using dyes in his work, Pu prefers to rely on the egg’s natural coloring to highlight his designs.

A self-taught artist from Dongzhuangtou Village, Pu stumbled upon eggshell carving by accident in 1995 and has been doing it ever since. He has since won several awards in competitions and exhibitions for his ‘eggcellent’ artwork.
