A Painting Robot That Can Plan Out Each Stroke It Paints
Built by a team from the University of Konstanz in Germany, the ‘e-David’ is an ordinary welding robot that has been modified and programmed to paint.
Equipped with five different brushes, 24 colors and a camera, the ‘e-David’ captures a picture of what it’s going to copy, processing it through its software to “determine where to add dark or light tones to reproduce the original”.
‘e-David’ can also watch itself paint, adjust its style and technique accordingly and decide when to switch or clean brushes. This differentiates itself from other painting robots that merely copy an image exactly.
