Hermès Debuts A Basketball That Costs Almost US$13,000
Only for the rich: French luxury fashion label Hermès has unveiled a basketball that’s priced at US$12,900 (about £8,200), for the re-opening of its 12,000-square foot Beverly Hills boutique.
The Hermès basketball comes in blue, and is made of calfskin leather and the same hand-stitched techniques used to make the brand’s renown ‘Birkin’ bag.
Robert Chavez, American CEO of Hermès, told HUH Magazine that the basketball represents “the sky, the ocean and all the beautiful pools that are a way of life in LA and Southern California.”
When asked whether the luxury items can be bounced and played with like a regular basketball, he says that they certainly can.
“The leather is sturdy, and why not make such a unique item come to life on the court?” he added.
Only two of these overpriced basketballs have been created; however, they can be specially ordered from the brand’s Paris atelier.
We think it’s better to stick to regular basketball brands.
