Coca-Cola Creates Special Shipping Containers That Bring Drinkable Water To Poor
The Coca-Cola Company has partnered up with UPS, IBM, McCann Health, TechnoServe, DEKA, NRG, IDB and Qualcomm, to bring free purified drinking water and basic necessities to poor communities.
The ‘Ekocenter’ is a 20-foot-long shipping container that has a water purification system, electricity-generating solar panels and biomass units, batteries to store electricity, and a refrigerated storage unit.
The kiosks hope to offer communities clean and safe drinking water, electricity, wireless communications, and vaccinations.
Ekocenters will be rolled out in 20 countries by end of 2015, with women who will be trained as entrepreneurs to operate them.
Currently, there is one Ekocenter that has been installed in Heidelberg, South Africa as a pilot project.
