The Whimsical Lives Of Modern-Day ‘Gypsies’ Captured In Stunning Photographs
The wandering nomads who shunned the trappings of society, sometimes known as ‘gypsies’, are not just a thing of the past.
Many new-age travelers, especially young people enchanted by the free and romantic lifestyle, hopped on vans and lived their lives out on the road.
Photographer Iain McKell followed a small group of travelers in the UK for more than 10 years to photograph their lives. The photo book titled ‘The New Gypsies’ was recently published.
McKell was captivated by the lives of these intriguing characters, or “new renegade tribe”, as he termed them. He loved the idea that they had ditched motor vehicles for horse-drawn wagons, but also made use of modern technology such as mobile phones and Facebook.
His photographs of these beautiful people and their quaint mobile homes exude a sense of wild beauty and unadulterated freedom.
