UNIQLO Sets Up Pop-Up Store In An NYC Subway, Sells Winter Wear
By Jillian Wong, 22 Oct 2013
Japanese clothing store UNIQLO recently launched a pop-up store in the Union Square subway station in New York City.
The store will sell mostly coldwear in anticipation of the coming fall and winter. As an incentive to customers, the company offered $5 pre-loaded Metrocards with purchases of its jackets and parkas.
The New York MTA plans to turn vacant tenant spaces into temporary retail outlets by offering short-term leases to businesses, while the agency looks for long-term tenants.
UNIQLO is the first brand to work with MTA on this initiative which benefits both companies; the MTA gets to improve its real-estate image and UNIQLO gets to reach a bigger group of customers, given that more people than ever are using the subway.
