Airbnb Unveils New San Francisco HQ Inspired By The Unique Homes On Its Listings
Airbnb recently unveiled their brand new San Francisco headquarters in a 100-year old renovated warehouse in the city’s SoMA neighborhood.
The rooms were inspired by eight Airbnb listings, including the original San Francisco apartment that the founders launched Airbnb back in 2008, replicated right down to the smallest detail. This included sourcing trinkets from the respective countries and installing a real bed in one of the rooms.
In effect, any of the 200 employees can choose to work in Bali, Milan or Paris, keeping in line with the company’s goal to create novel experiences everywhere.
CEO Brian Chesky says, “The first time we stepped into the atrium, we imagined looking up and seeing a cross section of the very homes that are featured on our site – immediately knowing, without seeing any logos or signs, that you were at Airbnb.”
Other quirky touches include restoring the building’s former president’s office, a conference room modeled after the War Room in the Stanley Kubrick film Dr. Strangelove, and a dining hall installation comprising 115 drawings of employee experiences sketched on plywood from its construction.
