A Blue Chicken & Other Everyday Meals Painted In Bright, Unnatural Colors
By Dorothy Tan, 08 Apr 2014
California-based photographer Lawrie Brown has created a new series that shows wholesome, everyday meals that have been painted in bright, unnatural colors.
We are so used to our ideas about how food should look that these images of oddly colored food items strike us as bizarre, and even repulsive in some cases.
While it is probable that many would be able to accept purple syrup on an ice-cream sundae, most people would find it very difficult to convince themselves that a bright blue roast chicken is actually edible.
Other than making us more aware of our psychological response to colors in our food, the series also serves to highlight the large amount of artificial coloring that goes into modern food production.
View all the images from the series on Brown’s website.
