Olive Oil Bottle That Cracks Open Like An Egg & Other Brilliant Food Packagings
By Dorothy Tan, 10 Jun 2014
Packaging is a significant contributor to the massive amount of waste that is spilling out of landfills all over the world—Swedish design studio Tomorrow Machine has come up with a series of ingenious, attractive and eco-friendly food packagings that “has the same short life span as the foods they contain”.
Consisting of three fascinating prototypes, the “This Too Shall Pass” project is the result of experimentation with various unconventional but bio-degradable materials that can be used in food packaging. According to its creators, “the package and its content are working in symbiosis”.
The project has created an olive oil bottle made of caramelized sugar that cracks open like an egg, a smooth carton that is made of agar agar jelly and a beeswax rice container that peels open like a fruit.
These packaging designs are not only good for the environment, but would also be great to interact with, adding a touch of whimsy to the everyday life.
