A Flat-Packed Leather Shoe That You Have To Stitch Together Yourself
By Dorothy Tan, 23 Jun 2014
New shoe company Pikkpack has brought the DIY movement to footwear by introducing a leather slip-on that users would have to stitch together by themselves.
Aiming to “improve the user-product connection”, the Pikkpack design is based on the traditional Hungarian bocskor shoe—this ultra-minimalist model is made from a single piece of leather and weighs less than a pound.
Shipping in a flat pack, the Pikkpack requires its wearer to put it together with bright reflective laces, evoking a sense of personal attachment, much like the one that results from putting together a self-assembled IKEA bookshelf.
This DIY shoe was recently successfully funded on Kickstarter—you can learn more about it here.
