A 3D-Printed Titanium Prosthetic Leg That Is Too Beautiful To Cover Up
By Dorothy Tan, 31 Dec 2014
Based in Brooklyn, New York City, industrial design student William Root has created a new and improved kind of prosthetic limb—the “Exo-Prosthetic” is an artificial leg that has been 3D-printed from laser-sintered titanium.
Traditional protheses are not only expensive to produce due to the complexity of their mechanisms, but also tend to look and feel mechanical and robotic—in contrast, the Exo-Prosthetic is considerably more affordable, and its hollow, cage-like design is a lot more attractive and human than the bulky conventional option.
Each Exo-Prosthetic is custom-made for its wearer—it is based on modelings of both the truncated and intact limbs to produce a more comfortable fit.
Head over here for more information about the Exo-Prosthetic—what do you think of it?
