Minimalist, Cubist Interpretations Of Famous Pop Culture Icons
By Yap Yen, 01 Jun 2015
We previously featured Federico Babina’s delightful illustrations of famous buildings imagined as zoo animals, and his redesigning of classic film posters to include famous designer furniture.
The Italian illustrator introduces his latest project, a new set of minimalist portraits titled ‘Inkonic Faces’, which feature cubist interpretations of famous pop culture icons like Audrey Hepburn and Charlie Chaplin.
According to Babina, the project is a study on “the simplification and the identification of the basic elements for recognition of a portrait”. The use of jagged lines and formal deconstruction is reminiscent of Picasso, and Babina strives to preserve the mood and personality of each subject in his work.
