An Animated History Of The Hamburger
By Yap Yen, 02 Jun 2015
To celebrate National Hamburger Month, this Grub Street feature by food expert George Motz and New York Magazine illustrator Jorge Corona brings us an animated history of the hamburger.
The animated piece features an explanation of its origins, its earliest forms, how it traveled to the United States and how it got its name.
For instance, the history of the hamburger goes as far back to the 13th century, when the Mongols would put pieces of meat under their saddles to tenderize it as they rode. Also, the hamburger only became known as a distinctly American dish in 1920.
