Man Walks 4,500km Through China, Shoots Transformation In Fascinating Time-Lapse
By Valerie Chang, 09 Jun 2015
How did you celebrate your birthday?
For Germany-born Christoph Rehage, he decided to embark on a walking journey from Beijing to his home when he turned 26 years old.
While he did not complete his mission of reaching Germany, he trekked some 4,500km through China for a year and made a timelapse, titled ‘The Longest Way’.
The five-minute video shows Rehage’s transformation through his selfies with the picturesque scenery, people he met and sights he saw in China.
He wrote: “All of the distance from Beijing to Ürümqi was completed solely on foot, straight good old walking. There are instances where you can see me in the video sitting on a plane or riding a boat, but those are during breaks I had to take from walking, either to sort out bureaucracy issues or to take care of some personal things.”
Currently, Rehage has stopped walking.
His update on ‘The Longest Way’ website stated: “I am not walking. It’s been more than two years, and since then a lot of things are different. […] I came up with a new plan: go back to university, get a degree, don’t think about walking for a while.”
You can watch the timelapse below or check out the journey’s website for more information.
