LOL: A Hilarious Parody Of The Hipster Artisanal, Handmade Movement
By Jillian Wong, 28 Jul 2015
The hipster artisanal, handmade movement has been parodied to hilarious effect by director Paul Riccio in his latest short ‘The Timmy Brothers – Water Makers’.
In the film we are introduced to Bill and Terry Timmy, Brooklyn-based purveyors of handcrafted water who possess “an almost pathological attention to craftsmanship and a thirst for helping people become less thirsty.”
Making “bespoke water” is akin to storytelling, and the pair proudly explain that their H2O evokes memories of the locations they are taken from, such as the Mississippi River and the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, giving drinkers a crash course in history, geography and philosophy.
Perhaps the funniest moment is when they describe how the water is transported back to Brooklyn by a team of small donkeys called burros.
To detractors who cry foul at paying US$11 for a bottle of water, they add that it’s not just a liter of water, it’s “a liter of adventure.”
According to Little Black Book, Riccio said he wanted to show the silliness and pretentiousness of the culture surrounding “authentic” products.
