Brilliant Folding Fan Logo Concept For 2020 Tokyo Olympics Gains Popularity
By Melissa Goh, 24 Aug 2015
In light of the recent 2020 Tokyo Olympics Logo plagiarism controversy, Spain-based Japanese graphic designer KanKan has created a redesigned concept logo that is well-received by Japanese internet users.
KanKan uploaded a design of a folding fan logo onto his Twitter account, explaining that the spread out fan symbolizes good omens and has been a tool used to cheer others on since ancient times.
The design also perfectly captures the Olympic quality of harmony, with the colorful dots signifying others supporting Japan’s red suns.
Internet users have since commented that it is a better design than the current official one, and that the design could be printed on real folding fans to become an official Olympic merchandise.

扇は末広がりで縁起がいいものとされ、古くから応援するときの道具として使われてきたので、オリンピックのモチーフとして最適＆「和」も感じられていいかなと。「多くの人で支えられている日本（日の丸）」を扇の中で表現しています。 pic.twitter.com/4i0WJiInfj— かんかん (@vivakankan) August 17, 2015
