New ‘Comet’ Phone Claims To Be The First Smartphone That Can Float On Water
By Yap Yen, 22 Sep 2015
The ‘Comet’ phone is waterproof and will potentially be the “world’s first buoyant smartphone”.
Powered by Android, the device features a 4.7-inch screen, with lights along the edges that change color for various purposes, including to reflect your mood. The phone floats on water, is water resistant and comes with either 32 or 64 Gb of memory. It also boasts 16 MP dual camera.
Seeing that about 82.5 million smartphones have been damaged by water or are lost in restrooms, pools, beaches and the sea, the creators designed ‘Comet’ to end this problem.
However, this article by PSFK questions whether the ‘Comet’ can really float. After some scientific calculations regarding density, they advise backers to “approach with caution”, since it seems unlikely that this slim phone will be able to stay afloat.
