If you want to be more productive, the answer might lie in drinking a glass of water when you wake up.
According to Business Insider, this simple 30-second morning routine practiced by top executives like Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington and Kate Cole, president of FOCUS Brands which owns Auntie Anne’s and Cinnabon, will ensure you start your day on the right note.
In the article, nutritionist and author Rania Batayneh outlines five benefits of drinking water.
Drinking water helps rehydrate your body after a night of rest
Going six to eight hours without water while you sleep is a long period of time, and drinking a glass of water when you wake up is a quick way to rehydrate your body. Instead of reaching for coffee which further dehydrates you, down water instead.
Drinking water helps you be more alert
Dehydration makes you lethargic, and drinking water helps to regulate your body and brain functions. Consuming anything after a long period of not eating or drinking shocks your body, and drinking ice cold water in the morning jump starts your alertness and energy levels.
Drinking water helps fight sickness
When you’re asleep, your immune system is working to get rid of toxins in your body. Drinking water when you wake up helps speed up the process by flushing them out. In addition, many of your major organs such as the heart, lungs and kidneys are made of water, and staying hydrated helps your body remain healthy.
