A three-week-old company received a huge surprise when Artist Laurance Rassin after viewing the windows at printicon came barreling in and demanded to know what goes on in this place. Being the visionary that he is - he saw the new cardboard furniture and envisioned his paintings wrapped all over them. As luck would have it Vahid Pourkay who is the CEO/Owner of printicon is also a partner in cardboardesign. They immediately put the visions to work. The whole process came to fruition in 1 week and was in place for the opening gala at the Hampton Design Showhouse by House and Garden and the following week at the prestigious South Hampton RVS Gallery Party.
The company was started by Cathy Henszey a Creative Director in Manhattan during a trade show where she saw a cardboard manufacturer who sparked an immediate interest and went home to design a line of furniture that could be put together with no glues or screws and is all recycled material. When she brought it to her friend and the only place she ever prints her design pieces - Vahid of printicon - he took one look and said I'm in.
The response has been overwhelming. People love the furniture, vases and placemats. It's a purchase that makes people feel good and gives them a sense of personal power because of it's ecological value and modern designs. MTV has already come in and did a shoot for their off beat quirky news segments to be aired in early August.
