Woman Creates Cozy, Christmas-Themed Winter Wear For Abandoned Greyhounds
By Yoon Sann Wong, 03 Dec 2015
Knitting jumpers for abandoned canines isn’t anything new for 52-year-old dog lover Jan Brown.
The mother from Seaburn, Sunderland, UK started creating knitwear for abandoned greyhounds at family-operated rescue center Greyhound Rescue Northeast in 2008.
In 2012, Brown decided to quit her job to knit full-time. She runs Knitted With Love, a website through which she sells her knitwear. All profits go toward supplying animal rescue centers across the UK with knitted jumpers for its canines. Each woolly hat, scarf and jumper can take up to 20 hours to make.
Kerry Elliman from Birmingham Greyhound Protection expressed her appreciation for Brown’s help. “Jan’s been absolutely amazing for us—she’s saved us a lot of money that we need to spend on vet bills for our greyhounds.”
With the festive season approaching, Brown’s creations have been infused with Christmas-inspired elements.
Brown explained, “Greyhounds have very thin fur so they really feel the cold during the winter so my gifts help keep them warm during walks. There are so many dogs that won’t be rehomed this Christmas so for many of them it’s the only gift they will get.”
