A Refreshing, Minimalist Take On All Your Favorite Emojis
By Yap Yen, 11 Jan 2016
When art director Vittorio Perotti and graphic designer Giulia Zoavo felt that the current emojis did not represent them, they challenged themselves to create a fresh, modern version of the existing emojis.
Three keywords—fresh, flat and simple—guided their collaboration titled ‘The Emoji Redesign Project’. They went through the existing 845 emojis and carefully designed each icon, respecting their pixels and grids. Their newly designed emojis look good at all sizes, with every icon carefully crafted, paying attention to shapes and geometry. They also used a color palette of less than 90 colors in the restyling.
Their project has gotten them a partnership with Threadless and they have begun 3D printing their emoji designs as keychains.
The team is working to get their redesigned emojis onto people’s phones. Visit their website for more information.
