Thought-Provoking Campaign Hopes To End Sex-Selection Abortions
By John Yong, 14 Apr 2016
Did you know that in some cultures, sons are favored over daughters? The outcome: 100 million unborn girls being aborted after their sonograms were taken.
Hoping to end sex-selection abortions are the Hong Kong and Shanghai offices of advertising agency Grey. Together, they have launched a thought-provoking campaign called ‘First Photo Last Photo’.
A photo exhibition was held in Hong Kong, where sonograms photos of unborn girls were shown to members of the public, with the hopes of raising awareness and debate on this cruel practice.
“First photo of a girl—a joyous moment or a death sentence? In today’s world, there are still cultures that favor sons over daughters, leading to sex-selective abortions. There are laws to prevent this, but they are widely ignored. Sadly, this ultrasound could be her last photo.”
