Many of us were raised to be always polite and courteous, but sometimes just having manners is not enough.
While it is preferable to err on the side of politeness than rudeness, we can risk appearing coldly polite, evoking a sense of detachment in our guests.
You may obey all the rules of etiquette, offer your guests refreshments, or even engage them about their journey to your place, but your guests may still feel unwelcome.
The difference between making a person feel welcome or out of place, it appears, is the warmth of your mannerism.
A warm person relates to their guests, and empathizes. While they do not adhere to strict codes of polite conduct, warm hosts know how to make friends feel right at home.
