Pentagram Creates Brilliantly Literal, Minimalist Logo That Transcends Language
By Dorothy Tan, 03 Jan 2017
Creating a logo that has a clear meaning is not an easy task—however, Paula Scher of renowned design studio Pentagram has managed to do that with the new identity of The Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, which aims to raise awareness for heart disease and stroke.
The striking but minimalist logo consists of two graphic icons—the heart shape and the stroke punctuation—which literally translate to the charity organization’s name.
Canada’s official bilingualism requirement inspired this symbolic logo that transcend language—while the stroke symbol does not translate directly to the French word for stroke, the designers explain that, “it represents a feeling anyone who has been impacted by a heart attack or stroke has felt — an abrupt punctuation, exactly how stroke interrupts life suddenly”.
