Artist Talks About Her Anxiety, Depression With Comics Of Herself As A Bear
By Dorothy Tan, 04 Jan 2017
Holly Hindle is the creator of a funny and relatable comic series titled ‘The Bear Minimum’, where she draws herself as a bear dealing with life’s many ups and downs.
In addition to sharing about the career struggles she has as an artist, she has also been very honest about the mental health issues that she has been grappling with, including anxiety and depression.
Her willingness to to share this very private part of her life helps to raise awareness for these conditions, which are not often talked about for fear of stigma—her dark humor and expressive drawings adds a light-hearted edge to these serious subjects.
According to Hindle, she draws herself as a bear instead of as a person because she just does not like drawing humans—she also has body image issues after being bullied in school.
