Photographer-cum-artist Nick Turner finds solace in Iceland. He frequents this land of ice and fire to draw inspiration for his creative avocation.
It all began in 2011 when he first fell head over heels with Iceland’s rugged yet elegant landscape. In addition to her seductive outdoors, he found himself favoring her majestic and spirited creatures of the land, horses.
His paintings and photographs do not drift far from his love interests. Turner described the aura of the animal as pure and sensitive. Needless to say, he admitted to being branded as a young boy with the intention of being one with them.
Arts organization Twyla recently traveled with the artist to Iceland—otherwise known as Turner’s ‘studio’—to have a deeper look at his unique relationship with the horses and their critical role in his art pieces. Part of this documentation included Turner stripping nude and running amongst the creatures.
“I always related more to horses,” he mentioned in the interview. “I’m much more comfortable around them than people. I am more interested in being influenced by nature than necessarily by society.”
The film might be a lot to take in at first, but after a while, the serenity and beauty that comes with it will overwhelm the viewer. Like the soft sounds of the waterfall, and the light breeze of the wind, this piece is utterly beautiful and ethereal; exuding peace and tranquility.
“I want to project myself into the horses’ world; into nature and be one of them rather than the man connecting with them.”
