Some days, you’ll want to take the minimalist approach and step out of your house with nothing on hand—except your phone, because it’s hard to function without it. You might push that thought away, assuming that nothing productive will ever come out of only having your phone with you—but that’s where you thought wrong.
creativeLIVE has swiped through multiple apps—along with lettering artist Jessica Hische, designer Jason Tselentis, and TPN Retail group creative director Tan Le—to find the most effective ones for graphic designers.
Check out the following apps below, which may serve to be helpful on days you don’t have—or want—your laptop. Visit here for all 10 of them.
Inspiration and creativity: ‘Paper by FiftyThree’

‘Paper by FiftyThree’ is a neat and easy way to create and combine lists, sketches and diagrams. Tan Le of TPN Retail says, “‘Paper’ allows me to import images, comps, and deck pages and make notes and quick art direction overlays. It’s an easy interface, if not a little over complicated.”

Come across an interesting typeface while running errands? Identify it by snapping a photo and uploading it to ‘WhatTheFont’. This useful mobile site works as a ‘Shazam’ for fonts, and instantly connects you to their names as well as similar typefaces.
Writing and note taking: ‘iA Writer’

‘iA Writer’ is available on iOS, Mac, Android, and is perfect for anyone who writes a lot. Its no-frills plain text interface keeps you away from unnecessary distractions. The newly updated app even lets you attach images, tables, and texts in blocks of content.
Jason Tselentis, who’s an associate professor of design at Winthrop University, says, “When it comes to content collection and long-form writing, I love ‘iA Writer’s’ clean and simple interface. It has everything I need without all of the fuss most word processors offer.”
Productivity: ‘Scanner Pro’

The powerful ‘Scanner Pro’ app has made clunky real life scanners obsolete. It’s built on the idea that you need to make quick scans outside of home, because carrying a scanner around is highly awkward and cumbersome. It also works faster than an actual scanner.
Jessica Hische explains, “When I do pencil sketches, I use this app to ‘scan’ them, and I get better, faster results than when I use an actual scanner most of the time. It’s very easy to use, well-designed, and is great for both documents and sketches.”

This visually-stunning app helps you easily “take your to-dos on the road.” When you have an unfinished task on the list, it saves you from feeling extra stressed by automatically rolling over that task to the next day.
You can also save recurring tasks if you have trouble remembering the littlest routines. The ‘TeuxDeux’ team amusingly quips, “If you're like us, you're always worried you'll forget pants. Never again. Simply add ‘Put on pants every day’ to your to-do list, and ‘TeuxDeux’ will make sure you never forget again.”
