Watch the commercials from McDonald’s latest campaign, featuring American actress-cum-comedian Mindy Kaling, and you’ll find no mention of the Golden Arches whatsoever.
In what’s been dubbed the company’s first ‘unbranded’ marketing initiative, McDonald’s banks on Kaling’s popularity, the power of Google, and the pop culture myth that Coca-Cola tastes additionally delicious at McDonald’s. The only hint of the fast food giant is Kaling’s yellow dress contrasted against a red backdrop.
The ads, which have been uploaded to the YouTube channel That place where Coke tastes SO good, has Kaling encouraging viewers to google exactly as the channel’s username says.
So far four spots have been added to the YouTube playlist, one of which is titled ‘Beverage Technician’ that Kaling shared on Twitter with the amusing caption, “I partnered with a brand w/o being able to say the name of the brand. Is that normal? If so, can I be paid in fries?”
