The Minimalist, Tiny But Spacious ‘MUJI Hut’ Is Now On Sale
By Dorothy Tan, 20 Apr 2017
Back in 2015, we featured three prototypes of MUJI’s cozy, tiny home called the ‘MUJI Hut’—now, the charming building is finally available for purchase in Chiba prefecture, Japan.
The final design for this minimalist home is meant to be set up almost anywhere and blend in with its surroundings—according to the Japanese brand, you could “put it in the mountains, near the ocean, or in a garden”.
While it looks minuscule, with its interior measuring just nine meters square, its porch and high roof makes it big enough for three to four people—the large sliding glass windows that covers almost the entire front of the house also lets in an abundance of light, making it feel spacious and airy.
Made entirely of wood from Japan, it is built with a traditional technique borrowed from Japanese shipbuilding that uses burnt cedar wood to enhanced the structure’s durability and strength.
As expected, the simple architecture of the MUJI Hut is meant to be complemented with the clean, functional furniture and homeware that MUJI is known for—simple design sets the mood for a relaxed and comfortable environment.
Learn more about the MUJI hut here—unfortunately, there is no plan to make it available outside of Japan.
