Amazing Sand & Gold Artworks That Are Magically Revealed In One Dramatic Motion
By Izza Sofia, 21 Apr 2017
German artist Tim Bengel has developed a unique style of painting by using two uncommon materials—sand and gold.
Starting with a blank canvas, Tim covers it with a special adhesive, which dries very slowly. He then adds black sand, and sometimes gold, to the canvas in a carefully executed design. The individual grains are added using a fine scalpel.
When the design is completed, he fills in the spaces with white sand. Tim shakes off the excess sand and the stunning artwork is dramatically revealed.
Each of Tim's artworks generally takes a month, or 80 hours, to create. However, he once spent nearly 300 hours working on his biggest creation—a picture of the Palace of Versailles.
Check out his upcoming solo show, titled ‘Monuments’, at the HG Contemporary Gallery in New York City, which opens on 7 September 2017.
The full collection of Tim's sand and gold pieces are available for viewing on his Facebook page.
