A Fun Activity Book That Teaches You ‘How To Draw Type And Influence People’
By Dorothy Tan, 21 Apr 2017
Graphic designer and founder of Type Tasting Sarah Hyndman states that people not only interact with typefaces visually, but also psychologically and emotionally as well—in fact, she has found that “type alters what you smell”.
Based on the idea that typography affects us in deep and diverse ways—and often at a subconscious level so that we do not even know that we are being swayed in a certain direction by the way the words we are reading looks—Hyndman has recently released a fun activity book titled How To Draw Type and Influence People.
Suitable for both general readers with an interest in typography and graphic designers who want to create their own letterforms, it explains how type can be used to deliver different messages because typefaces “evoke an emotional response and trigger associated memories before we've even read the words”.
Readers would be introduced to various typefaces in this book, and then invited to participate in creative exercises to learn how to draw the fonts and explore the associations related to each style.
Head over to It’s Nice That to read more about Hyndman’s research and findings on how “written language is not just seen; it is also heard, felt, tasted and sniffed”.
