Chinese Airlines Creates Striking Haute Couture Uniforms For Its Crew
By Izza Sofia, 07 Jul 2017
A Chinese airline is going the haute couture way with their crew uniforms.
Hainan Airlines debuted their new uniforms at Paris Couture Week. Designed by Laurence Xu, the uniforms are inspired by the ‘Cheongsam’, a traditional Chinese dress that women usually wear for more formal occasions. However the dress was updated with Western-style draping for an international, modern look.
The uniforms feature traditional Chinese imagery, such as clouds, waves and the roc, a mythical bird of prey. The jackets and coats that female employees will wear over the dresses feature a structured mandarin collar and crisp tailoring.
Uniforms for men however, are more geared towards Western design. It features the double breasted overcoats. A hint of Chinese element is still displayed on the uniform, where the Mandarin collar is seen on the men’s jackets.
“The cooperation between Hainan Airlines and Lawrence Xu is industry leading. We are not only creating a new uniform, but also showing the internationalised image of our airline. Especially on international routes, we would like to let passengers know that China is modern and trendy,” according to Xu Fei, brand director of Hainan Airlines.
