Artificial intelligence has advanced to almost terrifying heights. Case in point: just last week, Facebook had to kill its AI because it started inventing its own creepy language. Now, AI is known to be so competent, it’s being invited to participate in a number of duels.
The Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS) conference has initiated a number of challenges that will pit AI agents against one another. It’s like a real-life Pokémon League that would imbue hope—or fear—in the future.
A total of 23 independent competitions were proposed to the committee, but these were narrowed down to five. Agents will be judged according to their ability to run, manipulate images, converse as intelligently as humans, answer trivia questions, and detect cancerous tumors.
While the conference doesn’t start until early December this year, “trainers” are already preparing their bots for battle. May the best machine win.
