BBC Sport Rolls Out A New Logo And Customized Font To Create A Unique Identity
By Izza Sofia, 11 Aug 2017
BBC Sport has launched a rebrand, comprising new logo and graphics, ahead of the Premier League season.
Starting today, the BBC Sport website will flaunt a yellow colour and the new ‘Reith’ font, which has been developed especially for the entire BBC operation by its User Experience & Design and Marketing & Audiences teams. While it debuts on BBC Sport, the font will be applied across all BBC brands by the end of 2017. BBC wants to have its own font to create a unique brand identity, so users will recognize it without even seeing the logo.
The first television programme to showcase the rebrand will be Football Focus, followed by Final Score and Match of the Day. BBC said the intention was to create a “more uniform approach” across television and digital platforms. This is the BBC Sport brand guideline’s first update in seven years.
“Our last sport rebrand was very much TV-specific but that no longer reflects the way our audiences operate. We want audiences to be able to identify BBC Sport content in the sea of information that’s out there, whether online, on TV or on social media. Importantly, this design provides a consistent visual image for audiences,” explained James Parry, head of marketing at BBC Sport.
