Collapsed Luxury Mobile Brand Vertu Is Auctioning Gold And Diamond Smartphones
By Kylie Woon, 11 Aug 2017
You might have heard of Vertu—the hyper-exclusive luxury smartphone brand that many are vaguely aware of, but few are truly familiar with. Vertu Signature smartphones—made of materials such as 18-carat gold and alligator leather—come priced from US$15,000 to US$51,000.
After a host of financial difficulties, the brand announced liquidation in July. Now, the luxury smartphones—some studded with diamonds—are being auctioned off at lower prices.
Many of the devices are available between US$2,500 and US$17,000, which is still hardly considered cheap by many. Compared to their original prices however, these could be considered a steal.
British mobile analyst Ben Wood of CCS Insight expressed his dismay over the entire collapse. “Was a UK tech jewel once,” he tweeted.
Interested parties can browse through the phones on auction here. Other Vertu assets, such as the bronze statue of a man on a horse wielding a Vertu logo—is also open to bidders, should anyone feel inclined.
