Face ID could soon be the only way to unlock your iPhone, possibly making the iPhone 8 the last Apple smartphone to be fingerprint recognition enabled.
Earlier this month, renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote in an investor’s note that iPhone X’s rivals would probably need a few years to match its Face ID technology.
Yesterday, the expert from KGI Securities announced that Apple is expected to abandon Touch ID in all 2018 iPhone models.
Kuo describes that 3D sensing will become a “key selling point” for future iPhones, and removing Touch ID would enable the company to design full-screen, actual end-to-end display phones.
With Face ID becoming a yardstick for consumer security and protection, Kuo also believes that Android manufacturers are making the transition to implementing 3D sensing in their future devices.
It’s too early to guess what kinds of iPhones Apple will pull out of its sleeve next year (iPhone Y?), though there are already rumors of a 6.4-inch phone in the lineup.
