CNBC has reported that 21st Century Fox was recently in talks to sell most of its company to Walt Disney Co.
The deal has been put on hold for now, but it could resume. If the negotiations pull through, Disney will have control over a majority of 21st Century Fox’s properties—save for the broadcast network, Fox News, Fox Business, and Fox Sports.
“In addition to the movie studio, TV production and international assets… Disney would also add entertainment networks such as FX and National Geographic,” writes CNBC.
Disney already owns Lucasfilm—and with the rights it might additionally receive from 21st Century Fox, it could be able to distribute the first six Star Wars films.
Most of the Marvel franchise would also be tied to one giant studio. Although Universal continues to hold the rights to the Hulk, Marvel Studios can still include him as a supporting character.
The deal might be on standstill, but that hasn’t stopped movie junkies from imagining the life of a large, film-and-television family.
A partial merger between Disney and 21st Century Fox could mean that the ‘X-Men’ could work closely together with the ‘Avengers’—and that the potty-mouthed ‘Deadpool’ might require a large bottle of Disney-branded mouthwash.
