Apple Acknowledges Users’ Claims That iPhone X Screens Freeze In Cold Weather
By Izza Sofia, 12 Nov 2017
Apple has confirmed that it will be fixing an issue that causes the iPhone X screen to suddenly become unresponsive in cold weather.
The problem appears to have surfaced from the iPhone subreddit community discussion recently. In that discussion, several iPhone X owners complained about the keyboard and touchscreen losing functionality in cold temperatures.
An iPhone user said that he has been experiencing the problem in -2 to 5 degrees Celsius temperature. When he spoke with a representative at Apple through the Apple Support App, the response was “the device was designed to work in temperatures up to 0 degrees Celsius. It is expected that the device may slow down and maybe unresponsive.”
Some users quickly found a workaround for the frozen screen problem. Locking the phone and unlocking it via Face ID seemed to resolve the issue and allow the device to recognize swipes and touches properly instantly.
“We are aware of instances where the iPhone X screen will become temporarily unresponsive to touch after a rapid change to a cold environment,” Apple told the site. “After several seconds the screen will become fully responsive again. This will be addressed in an upcoming software update.”
