Ghibli Museum in Tokyo has announced that Hayao Miyazaki’s new short film, Boro the Caterpillar, has been completed and that the 14-minute film will be screened at its premises on 21 March.
The new work, written and directed by Miyazaki, is the creator’s first animation since 2013’s The Wind Rises. The film tells the story of the caterpillar ‘Boro’, who emerges from his egg just before dawn, and the coming and going of friends and enemies.
The anime is described as, “Just before the dawn breaks, Boro the caterpillar hatches from an egg in the grass.”
“The morning sun, the first he’d ever seen, was dazzlingly bright, and he drew in his first breaths of the delicious air of the world. He climbed down to the surface, where other caterpillars and hostile creatures were, and took his first steps upon this earth.”
Tickets for the March screenings will go on sale on 10 February.
