Following widespread backlash, YouTube has finally stepped forward to revoke some of internet celebrity Logan Paul’s influential power.
The YouTuber sparked major controversy when he first uploaded footage of a deceased body in Japan’s ‘suicide forest’, which understandably bred ire not just within the country’s perimeters.
Paul received further criticism when he reportedly monetized his apology video.
Noting that the hullaballoo did not appear to be extinguishing anytime soon, YouTube broke its silence in a chain of posts written on Twitter, saying that it was equally “upset” by the video shared by Paul.
The platform added that Paul would be facing “further consequences” including a withdrawal of his account from Google’s top-tier preferred ad program, which will likely cause future profits generated from his 15 million-odd subscribers to plummet.
According to Polygon, the company is also cutting several ties with him. This includes canceling its YouTube Red movie, The Thinning: New World Order, which he was previously slated to star in.
“Additionally, we will not feature Logan in season four of Foursome and his new Originals are on hold,” the company wrote in a statement.
