Ever since a Redditor ‘deepfakes’ developed an algorithm that could stitch celebrities’ faces to women’s bodies in adult films, AI-assisted “fake porn” has been on the rise.
Inspired by the creator’s work, a fellow Reddit user by the name of ‘deepfakeapp’ has launched ‘FakeApp’, a NSFW “faceswap” desktop tool that mimics the originator’s algorithm.
‘FakeApp’ is designed for the everyday person who has little to no technical experience. The user-friendly app allows virtually anyone to plop faces from their personal database onto the bodies of adult stars.
The system hasn’t been perfected yet, however. There are a few botched faceswaps here and there:

“I think the current version of the app is a good start, but I hope to streamline it even more in the coming days and weeks,” ‘deepfakeapp’ told Motherboard.
“Eventually, I want to improve it to the point where prospective users can simply select a video on their computer, download a neural network correlated to a certain face from a publicly available library, and swap the video with a different face with the press of one button.”
The technology might hint at the impressive progress of machine learning, but it also warns of how scarily simple it might be to manipulate people’s beliefs in the near future. Through AI, the average internet user can easily edit content to create false revenge porn or sex tapes.
Check out a couple of examples and read more about how ‘FakeApp’ works here.
