Security Contractor Claims To Have A New Tool That Unlocks Any iPhone On Market
By Izza Sofia, 27 Feb 2018
Cellebrite, an Israeli data extraction firm, has announced that it can bypass the strong encryption on any iPhone that’s currently on market. This includes Apple devices running iOS 11 such as the iPhone X.
Inside a publication detailing its Advanced Unlocking and Extraction Services however, Cellebrite maintains that its technology can actually support “Apple iOS devices and operating systems, including iPhone, iPad, iPad mini, iPad Pro and iPod touch, running iOS 5 to iOS 11.”
It adds, “Cellebrite Advanced Unlocking Services is the industry’s only solution for overcoming many types of complex locks on market-leading devices.”
According to Forbes, the US Department of Homeland Security managed to crack an iPhone X last December. The news came after Apple found itself in a legal tussle with the Department of Justice over breaking into the iPhone of a San Bernardino shooter.
A federal judge in the case ordered Apple to assist in the unlocking of the iPhone, but before any compliance with the court order, the FBI announced it had successfully unlocked the device with the help of a third party—believed to be Cellebrite.
