A handful of iPhone 8 users are regretting updating their smartphones to this recent version of iOS 11.
According to VICE, the iOS 11.3 update has destroyed the functionality of iPhone 8 screens that were replaced by third-party shops. After installing the update, users found that their phone screens had lost all touch functionality. They were unable to interact with their smartphones despite viewable displays of the home screen.
Apple Insider reports that it is unclear if Apple had intended for iOS 11.3 to be incompatible with the functionality of screens replaced by third parties, or if all of this is mere coincidence.
Whether Apple is working on an update to address this issue remains to be heard. Some third-party repair shops have mentioned that they now refuse to replace any iPhone 8 device screens due to this pending issue.
This, however, is not the first time that an update has rendered an iPhone unusable. Last year, an update rolled out by Apple disabled iPhone 7 screens that were repaired by third parties as well, according to The Guardian.
