Kanye West is no stranger to controversy and this time, it involves Givenchy designer Tony Spackman.
Spackman has accused West of stealing one of his 10-year-old designs after West unveiled his sketches of design plans on social media.
West shared his sketches for the upcoming YEEZY collaboration with adidas on Twitter, but the ex-Nike designer and currently Givenchy designer pointed out that the sketches were originally drawn by him when he was working for Nike.
According to HYPEBEAST, Spackman commented on Instagram, saying, “When Kanye tips your 10 year old Nike sketch and claims it.” He also said that West has removed the date from the sketch and stolen the image from his website.
Instagram account @diet_prada, posted the original design next to West’s with the caption, “The original by designer @tonyspackman was done in 2005 for a @nike collection called ‘Living Apparel’ which eventually became ‘Nike React’, a running collection grounded in freedom of movement and human comfort. Can we just call it Yee💤y now?”
West has learnt about the sketches and has taken to Twitter to explain the situation. According to West, an employee has presented the work to West and claimed that the sketches were his/hers.
West has announced on Twitter fired the employee after learning about the stolen work, and apologized to Spackman.

this is where a YEEZY study for base layer starts. I'm so excited about our new design team. Yeezy is no longer a fashion company we should be referred to as apparel or clothing or simply YEEZY. pic.twitter.com/0hcy4yHvO2
Ever-controversial Kanye is no stranger to digging in the far reaches of the internet for inspiration. Is Ye just showing his creative process with inspiration images or claiming the work to be his own? Photoshopping out the title of the sketch in the top left corner is pretty much a dead giveaway lol. Today I learned that a newly hired designer on the Yeezy team presented work that was not of their own. This person has immediately been let go from the Yeezy brand.— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) May 4, 2018
In a moment of inspiration, energy and excitement I had posted this sketch and would like to acknowledge the true creator of this amazing work, Tony Spackman.— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) May 4, 2018
