IKEA isn’t just about affordable furniture anymore—it’s also about celebrating how creativity and innovation enliven homes.
In addition to the offbeat collaboration with Virgil Abloh, IKEA has announced even more tie-ups with renowned brands. At its Democratic Design Days 2018 event, the Swedish giant teased upcoming products that it will be making with adidas, LEGO, and Saint Heron, among a few other companies.
Recently, you saw IKEA taking its first steps into streetwear foray. It’s now hoping to bring the same focus to other audiences of various age groups and backgrounds.
With adidas, it seeks to make sports available for everyone by exploring customers’ needs when they work out, sleep, and dine at home. “IKEA and adidas will collaborate to explore the connections between living spaces and sport, and how both can adapt to help create healthy habits,” it wrote in a press statement.
IKEA’s partnership with LEGO will involve the making of products that encourage creativity, experimentation, and play. “At IKEA, we first and foremost want to resolve this built-in, or maybe just perceived, conflict that play is messy in a creative, humanistic and playful way,” described Fredrika Inger, Business Area Manager for Children’s IKEA, at IKEA of Sweden.
The collaboration with Solange Knowles’ multidisciplinary cultural hub, Saint Heron, will include pieces that incorporate elements of architecture, design, contemporary art and music.
It is not known when the adidas and Saint Heron collections will debut, but IKEA projects the first rollouts of the LEGO collaboration to be within “the next couple of years.”
